Explore the
Himalayas like a local

From the best plate of momos to the quietest sunrise — answered by people who actually live here, sharpened by AI.

Our story

It began the most Darjeeling way — through conversations.

The AskHimalaya team

“A small team, building something local-first — designed to scale.”

For years, Tenzee Lhawang Bhutiaran a backpackers' hostel in the heart of town. Like every local who hosts travellers, he heard the same questions, every single day —

Where should we eat? What should we see? Where are the hidden spots? What are the real taxi rates?

After answering them hundreds of times, one thought stuck: what if you could just send a message and get that same local advice, instantly? That became AskHimalaya — built with Saharsh Thapa into a WhatsApp-first AI companion that feels like a local in your pocket. As it grew, Sudama Chettri and Satyanand Thapa joined to take it further.

Darjeeling is our testing ground. If it works here, it can work anywhere in the Himalayas.
